What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just person, which need no repentance.

A couple of things come to mind regarding this parable. First, this lamb originally belonged to the Good Shepherd, Christ Jesus. Now it is LOST, no longer saved. The good shepherd, Christ Jesus, will seek to restore this lost lamb to the fold. Yes, he will search. If he finds that lamb, he rejoices with his friends, but we need to keep in mind that once a lamb wanders off from the good shepherd, they can easily be devoured. The lamb is defenseless without Jesus watching over him or her. Don't wander off from the Lord.

You are right, and in this parable, like in other ones, to get right with God requires repentance, turning away from your sins. Until that occurs, you remain lost. I agree with you that the best thing is not to wander away from the Shepherd.
