It is not always possible to know if someone has had a genuine conversion. We do not all grow at the same pace, and God may be placing the emphasis on getting one thing out of one person's life and something else in another person's life. That is not to say sin is not sin to all, but to say that one person might recognize something as wrong before another recognizes it. Is Kanye West saved? Only God knows. Is Donald Trump saved? Only God knows. If they are saved, they are fairly recent converts, and a person's growth can be stunted if they are around bad influences, and they can grow faster if they are around good and sound Bible teachers. A person who has been under good teachers and in their Bible for years will recognize worldliness another person doesn't recognize. We spend our whole lives gradually being conformed to the image of Christ. Nobody is perfect overnight, but the main thing is, we need to be obedient children.

As well I know that I have not attained, and always need more of him. My attitude towards this is not self righteous at all, and if you were to hear me talk about it, you would know in what way I am saying this. Often times, obedience to Christ and encouraging others to obey the Lord is called being self-righteous.

You make a good point. With regard to some things, we all know they are wrong immediately, but in other matters, like some of the things Cletus mentioned, conviction may not be immediate, but over time, it will come.

Sin is sin. Everything really is black or white, but we don't necessarily have the understanding of all things. God knows our heart, so with regard to those more difficult things that aren't spelled out, I believe that God gives us grace while we are learning.

I think that is part of it, and God gives grace for a time (at least I hope so), for those who are holding onto things for a while because they are in denial. Sometimes we know in our heart something is wrong, but don't want to admit it.
