GLEANING
When we come to the house of God why do we come? Is it to be seen, is it to be dutiful, or to just have the appearance of association?
Brethren when we come to the house of God we come to lean on Jesus, clean our mind, and glean his word as we worship him in Spirit and Truth.
The fields of gospel truth are white and ripe for harvest! When we come into the presence of Jesus the presence has power to impact us; we reach out for cleansing; and prepare our hearts for the word. Often, we hear the familiar passages and many times close our ears; but if we remain focused the newness shall come forth. I would that God would cause us to be gleaners in the gospel fields where the word is abundantly falling to the ground. Let my heart be good soil for a fertile seed; let my heart be good soil to hear a vital creed. Let my heart be good soil to fulfill a longing need. I want to be like Ruth concerning where I glean; it should be in the field of my near-kinsmen who is able to redeem me and refresh, refurbish, and revitalize me. He does it through handfuls of purpose!
(15) And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
(16) And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not. Ruth 2:15-16 KJV
Boaz and Jachin are the names of the two pillars which stood in front of Solomon’s Temple. Boaz mean “in strength” while Jachin means “he establishes”.
Boaz was the great grandfather of David the King and with the physical genealogy of Jesus. Boaz and Ruth’s story is a type of the coming of the first appearance of Christ. Boaz became the kinsman redeemer who kept the law by going through the proper procedures concerning the law of the nearest kinsman by giving the nearest kinsman the chance to redeem Naomi, her dead sons, and Ruth her daughter in-law. Once the nearest kinsman denied his privilege and right to redeem Boaz promptly redeem them and purchased the debt forthright in the sight of 10 community leaders. His strength, his love, his treasure, and his tenacity were all present to redeem Naomi and Ruth and to carry on the linage of Christ. O Hallelujah to the King!
Praise the Lord for the fields of strength; were with humility we can glean the most vital substance for our soul! When Christ our Lord was obedient even unto the death of the cross; he fulfilled the mandates of the law without sin and paid the ultimate price to redeem us from our sins! Now we as gentiles are the bride of Christ just as the gentile Ruth became the bride of the Israeli Boaz!
We now have a temple with two pillars of virtue standing to remind us: “in strength he establishes”! God is not slack concerning his promises! When we come into his house we come into his presence and in his presence is the fullness of joy! When we come to worship HIM in Spirit and Truth we receive the blessings of heaven. When we glean the word let us take it home with us to thresh out any straw or stubble so that we may prepare its substance for our soul. We may want to thresh the messenger who is also limited by his knowledge but knowledgeable enough to give us the meat of the word. O that we would magnify the Lord and give praise to his Holy Name!
Therefore, I will come into his house with a right heart! I will bow down in humility and glean the fields of doctrine! I will bring it out of the house and share it after that I have thresh out any wood, hay, or stubble. I will submit it to the purifying fire of the wisdom of the Holy Spirit! I will confess its virtues and share its insights and declare to all that will hear and heed. I have been to the fields of Boaz and sought the pillar of Jachin; why then should I fear; for God is with me and abides within me! I have tasted the word divine and its delight has made me whole!
