"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
This is interesting to me for a couple of reasons. First of all, it is another verse that shows that Jesus Christ is God, not just the Son of God. He is called, "The mighty God." The other thing that is interesting is that it states here that one of the names of Jesus Christ is "The everlasting Father." Does anyone have any thoughts about that? I understand that Jesus and the Father are one, but I mean that a name of Jesus is "The everlasting Father?"

if you look up Father in the Strong's its reference number H1. coincidence? me thinks not.
thats a tough one as Jesus told us to pray to The Father... The Father anointed Him, a voice spoke and said this is my beloved Son hear Him... there are examples in scripture where the persons Father and Son in The Trinity are distinct however, it could be in the sense that Jesus is a Father in respect of regenerated men of the covenant. Those who are adopted BY Him into the family of God. Kinda like when you mentor someone you might refer to them as your spiritual son/daughter. I am not saying I am right, but that is what i think towards this verse, at least for now.
it may be its just to big to get our minds wrapped around. I do know this is a favorite verse of the non-trinitarians to prove there is no trinity. which is pure ignorance of scripture and evidence of a lack of being led of The Spirit.

I understand that Jesus and the Father are one, but I mean that a name of Jesus is "The everlasting Father?" It is a mystery. Counsellor is what we call the Holy Spirit.........so this seems to depict all three as being one (in Christ?). I don't know if this is quite right, but I tend to think of them as all being the same "Person", ie, they all have the same spirit, and are all God, but three different manifestations. Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the Father, and that before Abraham was, I am...........and it is written that God manifested in the flesh....and as we know the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God as well as the Spirit of Christ. Human beings all have their own individual spirit or soul, but as believers in Christ through the Holy Spirit we are all one as well. Something else I wonder about is the seven spirits of God and what that means and how it fits. They seem maybe to be tied to the seven churches...lampstands.

It is the mystery of the Holy Trinity.

I was thinking about that verse in conjunction with Christmas, and those things I mentioned really stood out. It reveals things about God, his nature and the oneness of the Trinity. It is an amazing scripture that proves the deity of Christ.

I agree with you. But all of these names are just to represents the love towards father and son of God. Do you think it might be showing how Jesus is the Son of God and part of the Trinity at the same time? Jesus is distinct in some ways, but also at one with the Father and the Holy Ghost?

That could well be. Jesus Christ is God the Son, not God the Holy Spirit or God the Father, yet we see him referred to in this passage as the Father and the Holy Spirit. We do not serve 3 gods, but a single God who exists in three persons, so when we encounter The Father, The Son or The Holy Spirit, we are encountering God. This can be hard for some to fully grasp.
