Most of us, if not all, already made this mistake.
And it is an easy thing to fall to if we are not careful.
❝Whoever guards his mouth and tongue
Keeps his soul from troubles.❞ - Proverbs 21:23
I will share an example of speaking without knowledge.
When my uncle died, a person from the church decided to say something to comfort me...
And then he said to me:
It is all well. He is with the Lord now!
But I knew he spoke that without any knowledge at all. He said that just to please me.
Unfortunately, the truth was that my uncle was very, very far from the Lord.
And even at his last days of life I couldn't see a sign of repentance.
I understand the man just wanted to comfort me, but we cannot forget the truth while doing so.
We should not seek to speak what men want to hear, we should seek to speak the truth in love.
We have to speak what men need to hear, and they need to hear from God (not from ourselves).
❝For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells...❞ - Romans 7:18
And almost always is not what they wanted or expected.
❝Because the carnal mind is enmity against God;
for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.❞ - Romans 8:7
Speaking things without knowledge or faith is very common and we need to avoid falling into this trap.
There are a few things which can lead someone to speak without knowledge or faith:
Pride (or your own will).
❝when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass,
that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously...❞ - Deuteronomy 18:22
When you speak a word from the Lord it will be proven to be true and it will come to pass.
❝So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.❞ - Isaiah 55:11
❝Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass,
When the Lord has not commanded it?❞ - Lamentations 3:37
We are not here to see our will to come to pass but the will of God, which is better than ours.
Then, only His Word should matter to us. Because if His will is accomplished is His name that will be glorified.
Ignorance.
❝...let us prophesy in proportion to our faith...❞ - Romans 12:6
If you do not have enough confidence in what you are about to say, it is better to stay silent.
❝Whoever guards his mouth and tongue
Keeps his soul from troubles.❞ - Proverbs 21:23
Then, please, let us speak things with knowledge, with faith, with solid confidence.
❝that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you,
and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.❞ - 2 Thessalonians 1:12
May the Lord bless you in Jesus' name!
