Some similarities between Moses and Peter:
Both had a calling:
Moses:
I’m not sure if there was a specific prophetic word about Moses beforehand, but in hindsight we know he was purposed by God to deliver the Israelites.
Peter:
Mat 16:18
“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Not a Pope, but the rock signifying the foundation of the apostles, and Peter was going to be the most prominent of the twelve.)
Both were zealous but not yet matured or fully sanctified when they started out:
Moses:
Exo 2:11-12
And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
Peter:
Jhn 18:10
Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
Both avoided standing for the truth out of fear, in a time of testing:
Moses:
Exo 2:15
Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.
Peter:
Mat 26:73-74
And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
Both experienced a change for the better following their failure:
Moses:
Act 7:22
And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds
(“What is highly esteemed among men…”…is not esteemed by God, and after a time in the wilderness our confession and beliefs about ourselves changes, like Moses. The Lord is not looking for clever or humanly admirable vessels at all, just empty ones that He can fill with more of Himself, and through His working in us, we become or are becoming empty of ourselves as we die to ourselves.)
Exo 4:10
And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
Peter:
Luk 22:32
But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
And as we know, both went on to serve the Lord and fulfill their calling in a more perfect way, we could say, after they were changed and matured.
