I keep hearing messages about the Way of the Cross, taking up your cross, etc. But what does this actually mean?
Does it mean being Christian in such a way or degree that brings persecution?
Does it mean denying yourself worldly and fleshly desires to be obedient to God?
If it means losing your life to find it or dying to yourself...how exactly do you do that?

I will tell you what it means to me, though others may have their own ideas. It says to take up your cross daily and follow the Lord. To me, that means that when you get up in the morning, you have made up your mind that you are going to follow Jesus that day, from the time you get up till the time you go to bed. It is an acknowledgment that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that He determines what we do. It is not so much intentionally trying to do things to be persecuted. I would not think the Lord wants us to go out of our way to seek confrontations, but it is simply doing as the Lord directs. That will possibly bring persecutions, depending on what the Lord is leading us to do, but not necessarily every single day. The Lord will not want us to fulfil the lusts of the flesh, so taking up the cross would automatically include that.

v But it aint just any jesus . As you well know . ITS the biblical one . If a man loves not the truth of the beauty of HIS words , IN THAT BIBLE IF a man loves not the truth of the words of those apostels , IF a man loves not the truth of all holy and sound doctrine in that bible , then what jesus are they following and what will that profit them . That is death and its end is the second death . ALL cling to those kjv bibles . For many other jesus s are being taught and preached today . A lamb born of water , blood , and the spirit a lamb who is truly born of the KING , LOVETH TRUTH , not the doctrines of men and hermes . BUT TRUTH . LET US REMEBER THIS to our final and last breath .

not just denying the flesh or obeying... but doing so even when you know its going to be your death.
in this instance Jesus knew as He did pray if there be any other way let this cup pass, nevertheless not my will but thy will be done.
one example would be if someone tells you to denounce your faith or die while pointing a rifle at you.
Jesus was wrongly condemned. He could have stopped it.
it is an allegory too in a spiritual sense.

Great question. I believe that it means denying fleshly lusts and sin not, to begin with. Carrying one's cross is also tied into following (obeying) Jesus even when it hurts and costs us. Following how He leads each of us personally, His will for us, as well as the general instructions to all of us in the bible. ( And just a thought about persecution....we here in the west have not undergone severe persecution like believers in other countries at different times in history, but we find that we do get persecuted by the devil in other ways.)

Jesus is the Shepherd of our souls and He leads and guides each soul's growing up in Him. For example, where it is written, "I have more things to say to you but you cannot bear them now."
