How a person views the Holy Bible affects our entire belief system. Is it just a collection of literature? Is it inspired? Is it inerrant? Is it culturally biased? Is it complete? These are question we are faced with today.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
These two verses remind us that the Bible is more than just a collection of ancient writings or a historical record of God's interactions with His people. It is a living and breathing document that was inspired by God Himself. The Bible is profitable for many things, including doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness.
As believers, we must approach the Bible with the understanding that it is the inspired Word of God. This means that every word and verse is given to us by God as a means of communicating His will and purposes for our lives. We must read it with a heart that is open to receive its message, and a mind that is willing to be transformed by its truth.
The Bible is profitable for doctrine. It teaches us the core beliefs of our faith and helps us to understand who God is and what He has done for us. It is through the Bible that we learn about the saving grace of Jesus Christ, and the hope that we have in Him.
The Bible also is profitable for reproof and correction. It exposes our sin and convicts us of our wrongdoing. It shows us where we have strayed from God's path and helps us to realign our lives with His will.
Lastly, the Bible is profitable for instruction in righteousness. It shows us how to live a life that is pleasing to God and equips us to do good works. As we read and study the Bible, we are transformed by its truth and empowered to live a life that honors God.
In conclusion, let us approach the Bible with reverence and respect, recognizing that it is the inspired Word of God. Let us study it diligently, seeking to understand its message and apply its truth to our lives. And let us allow it to transform us into the men and women that He desires us to be.
