Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
These verses offer a powerful reminder of the importance of living a life that honors God. The author of Ecclesiastes has spent much of the book exploring the fleeting nature of life and the futility of pursuing worldly pleasures. In the end, he concludes that the only thing that truly matters is our relationship with God.
The fear of the Lord is a theme that runs throughout the Bible, and it refers to a deep reverence and awe for God. It means recognizing His power and majesty and living in obedience to His commands. When we fear God and keep His commandments, we are aligning ourselves with His will and living in a way that honors Him.
Living a life that honors God is not always easy. We are constantly bombarded with temptations and distractions that pull us away from Him. But when we make it our goal to fear God and keep His commandments, we will find that everything else falls into place. Our priorities will shift, and our actions will be guided by His wisdom and grace.
The second part of these verses reminds us that God is the ultimate judge of our lives. He sees everything we do, even the things that we try to keep hidden. We will all stand before Him one day and give an account of our lives. This can be a sobering thought, but it is also a reminder that we should live each day with eternity in mind.
As we go about our daily lives, let us remember the conclusion of the whole matter: to fear God and keep His commandments. Let us seek to live in a way that honors Him, knowing that one day we will stand before Him and give an account of our lives. May we find comfort and strength in His grace, and may our lives be reflection of His love and mercy.
