I just encountered one of the most difficult questions on this topic. Normally, the person claims to want to be saved, but fears they committed this sin, and my response is that if God is still drawing them to him, they did not. In this instance, he is asking if people think he can be saved if he wanted to, and his transgression was cursing God, including the Spirit directly, on multiple occasions. He very may well have gone too far. What do you all think?
The only thing we have in Scripture is what the Pharisees accused the HS of. They equated the HS with Satan. That’s what blasphemy looks like. Jesus didn’t say it’s unpardonable to offend the HS. We know from the epistles that we can grieve Him without losing salvation. If someone is hurt or depressed and they lash out at God, that’s hardly the same as what the Pharisees did. Jewish leadership taught real HS blasphemy, and it sent the Jews down a path of rejecting Jesus which is unrivaled among any other race. People in this bondage are prevented from even considering the gospel because they’re afraid the gospel is actually satanic. I’ve come across some Jews who essentially said as much. They claim Jesus blasphemed by claiming to be God in the flesh, claiming to be His direct child, etc, and that believing such things are a grave insult to God. When you go around believing that the gospel (and Jesus’ many miracles) were an abomination, you are truly the lost of the lost.

I was more concerned over his being guilty of speaking a word against the Spirit than attributing the works of God to the devil, but he has nothing to lose in seeking God.

I guess it depends on how you define speaking a word against.

i think its a safe assumption to say if we still have conflict in our mind between Spirit and flesh, worldly things and Spirit, if we still have conflict in our mind about sin at all... we have hope of salvation. our mind being a battle ground that the enemy wants to discourage and confuse and bring about doubt... God wants us to love Him with everything we have, mind, soul, strength... if we had no hope we would not have such thoughts as we would be given over to depravity. God would give us over to pursue our lusts and evil imaginations. remember... there is no good thing in the flesh... therefore, if you have conviction about sin... then Praise GOD! because He is still working on your behalf. Praise GOD! because He is still drawing you, and you have not been cast off forever. even if you do not feel it... a fire can start from a tiny tiny spark, that smoulders and smoulders, and even in near proximity no heat can be felt. but there is still an aroma in the air. there is still a tiny coal burning. if you have any conviction whatsoever in regards to sin... Praise Him and rejoice and seek His face. make that spark of Holiness catch up by stirring up The Spirit of God in you. Time is running out people... do not harden your hearts!

Thanks for your thoughts on this Candance and Cletus. There is a guy at WCF that wondered if he committed the unpardonable sin by knowing about Jesus' warning, but cursing the Spirit anyway. If you haven't responded to him Cletus, you might want to, as he wants to know if there is any way he can be saved.

found it. I have helped a lot of people with that fear in the past, but in this instance, I feel like even had I been able to reply, it was better for you to talk to him.

Their is one thing we all need to be aware of huge . To curse God is highly dangerous . In fact I have heard from at least three who did this . And all three fell in time under a false peace . NOT GOOD . SO , while I wont say its too late for that man . WE NEED to make sure that folks know , DO NOT GET ANGRY at GOD . Even jobs wife said why don't you just curse GOD and die of course job said , Ye speak like the foolish women .

I agree, and wasn't confident enough to give him real assurance. That is why I think in this case, it was better that Cletus handle it. He has nothing to lose.

while I agree with you on it being dangerous because it is up to The King to let you get back on the salvation train or not, The Book does say if we speak a word against Jesus it can be forgiven. When I fell away for a season i was very angry with God. I am sure i did grieve The Holy Spirit, and i did hurt our relationship... but those living waters never left my belly. I even tried from time to time to pray in tongues just to see if i could when I could not feel Gods presence. Dont get what i am saying wrong here... I do agree its dangerous, but i have walked there and I do know there is hope for someone. God loves us and is Faithful to His Word... even when we are not. He does expect true sincere repentance. I know from experience this is a long road to travel and this is why it is important for us who have grace and peace upon us to abide in Him... time is running out. Now God is not constrained by time but if time runs out before His anger about something passes... that person goes to hell. and these are the facts. its not easy to go from a heart of stone to a flesh heart sometimes. I feel as though this is apart of what God wants from us... to turn the hearts back to Him... not that we can turn their heart but at least point them in the right direction. God even though maybe angry about their conduct loves them, and Oh how He loves them! truly it brings tears to my eyes and I cannot speak when i think on how the world is, that they love their sin more than they would come to Jesus and let Him reign in their hearts. I know this is not of me, but The Love of God in me. While we were yet sinners... while we were enemies of God... Jesus bled and died. if there be any chance that even one would hear and turn... I want to speak to them, and I want them to know even if God is mad at you he does still love you. restoration is possible... these dry bones can live. No one was there to tell me God loved me when I had turned. And when i tried to tell a believer they told me i was horrible for saying those things and would not continue dialogue with me. And that pushed me further away from restoration. The power of life and death is in the tongue. I do not believe in name it and claim it, but i do believe in that we can speak life, we can sow seeds and even water seeds. And I also believe Gods word will not return to Him void. this is my faith and prayer for those who have walked away. That He would prepare their heart to receive His word and pour out a spirit of repentance upon them, and that God would turn their heart back to the way of righteousness and holiness. And that he would restore them and they would sing His praises.
it is so very true what The Book says about when we know Jesus and the way of righteousness and turn that the last state is worse than the first. Its like hell without the fire... but there is torment, for sure only a taste of what hell will be... but It is the worst and darkest I have ever experienced. they are in a worse existence than those who have never tasted Gods goodness and are just living in sin.

I got into an agrument with my bf and I said I didnt anything to do with the holy spirit, the holy spirit is evil...bc I wanted to hold onto my anger...my bf made a reference to I wasnt walking in the spirit such as being slow to anger etc...(and at the time I really dont like when he used God on me to shut me up bc I wanted to continue to talk on whatever we were arguing) that's what lead me to say those things. The funny thing about that is, I knew to be very careful about what I said about the holy spirit so I was kinda contemplating which word I said bc I didnt want it to be used against me.. and I made the mistake to choose the word "evil"....and after that, I was very worried and gain false security through the internet of what the unpardonable sin is really all about. Thoughts and advice? Am I doomed or is there still hope?
