Hey giller . Do you remember where JESUS said lusts enter in and choke the word . cares and pleasures in life , covetousness, and how john echoed him as well. The reason most folks have lost the true pure JOY of the LORD , is because their focus was put on lust . And that lust pulls them away . an example . How many folks we see get all false joyed up when men talk about that prosperity gospel , and also when they don't have as others have they upset , bickering . When anything hard comes against them, they complain and mumble. YET IN PRISON and being beaten , those true men REJOICED. BECAUSE THEY were just so greatful and joyed that the LORD even had called them out of darkness. Riches and things in life , lusts of the flesh , WILL Destroy a man . Its why I say we need to preach only ONE PROSPERITY GOSPLE . AND JESUS IS THOSE RICHES . And no matter what comes against us , we got ALL HOPE . no matter what things we lose in this life , WE GOT HOPE . Because we have CHRIST . and no suffering , no angel, not even death can separate us from the Love of GOD in CHRIST . But I tell us what can separate us , DISOBEDIANCE unto HE who saved us and is able to keep us from falling . We oust ourselves . SO , let us REMEMBER what CHRIST has done , and be fully content and rejoice IN THE LORD . ITS LORD PRAISING TIME .

God is good, it sure is Lord praising time.
And here are more scriptures:
Psa 35:27 (27) Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
Pro 15:23 (23) A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
Isa 35:10 (10) And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Joe 1:16 (16) Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
Hab 3:18 (18) Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Pro 15:13-15 (13) A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. (14) The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. (15) All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

I guess maybe we can go to our next fruit.
Gal 5:22-23 (22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
It is the fruit of goodness.

I have completely lost the plot on this thread, and I'm so sorry! Is the party over?

Like Candance, I have been busy this week too, and have gotten behind. Perhaps joy is one of those things that is not fully describable. It is happiness, but not happiness in the things of the world, but in the things of God. You can be miserable because of what is taking place around you, and in that way, very sad, but you can be joyful in the Lord, because you know God is always with you and you know that ultimately everything will work together for your good. It is like a supernatural type of happiness in God. Truly, the joy of the Lord is our strength, in the good times and in the bad.

I have completely lost the plot on this thread, and I'm so sorry! Is the party over? Throw those hands up in the air sister , and praise the LORD . Their is no fulfillment of the soul , only THE LORD fulfills us . Yes , on that note its high time we all praise the LORD .

Praise God brother Frienduff. This party is far from over. I think there is still much to be said for the fruit of the Spirit. The joy of the Lord is so important. Sometimes it is what takes us through the hard times. I know we are about to move on to goodness, but I am happy I was able to get back without missing the discussion completely on joy. Sometimes, I will sing "The Joy of the Lord" while I am going down the road, and that will be a huge blessing. We used to sing that in tent meetings.

I think that definition you posted, "uprightness of heart and life" is a excellent description of goodness. I think that is more what the Bible is saying as opposed to just kindness.

I think it is God imparting his goodness to us, and it flowing through us, and resulting in good works, such as clothing the naked, feeding the poor, ministering to people etc.

I think it is God imparting his goodness to us, and it flowing through us, and resulting in good works, such as clothing the naked, feeding the poor, ministering to people etc. I see things like that, acts of kindness, as part of being "upright in heart and life," but I also see acts of kindness being possible without being upright in heart and life. A lot of unbelievers are charitable. I completely agree with you that this is God imparting his goodness to us. This is fruit, not commandments. It is not "thou shalt be full of goodness." Goodness is a fruit of the Spirit of God that lives on the inside, so I agree with you, but feel this goes deeper than just ministering to the poor. The definitions you gave pretty much cover it all if you take them as a whole. They are very good, in my opinion.
