How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. Psalm 78:40,41
Here is something we all need to consider. Do we place limits on God? Are there any limits on what God can do? I was thinking about what 2fw8212a was saying about how he believes there is nothing that we cannot do if we trust in God, but the problem is our unbelief. We fail to get healed or we fail to have a need provided for. God is prepared to give us the desires of our heart, but one thing stands in our way, unbelief. We place limits on what God can do. It is not that we don't believe that God has limitless powers intellectually, but we limit him in our lives. The children of Israel saw all the mighty works God had done in delivering them from Egyptian bondage, yet they limited God when it came to conquering the land of Canaan and entering into His rest. Are we limiting God in some area in our lives?

We need the full counsel of the Word on this. Are we defining faith as enthusiastic willingness? Determination to believe? How much revelation/anointing is needed to increase our faith? How much does a clean vessel play in? What did Jesus mean that some spirits come out only by prayer and fasting?

Their lack of trust in God caused them to disobey His command. He told them to cross over into the Promised Land and they refused to obey due to a lack of faith in His promises...amen, they limited God.

We need the full counsel of the Word on this. Are we defining faith as enthusiastic willingness? Determination to believe? How much revelation/anointing is needed to increase our faith? How much does a clean vessel play in? What did Jesus mean that some spirits come out only by prayer and fasting? Let's consider these things. I define faith as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. We are willing to step out and obey God because of faith. I don't know if enthusiasm is necessary to obey. Jonah wasn't enthusiastic about warning the people of Nineveh about judgment to come.
Being determined to believe is not faith, but God might see your determination and grant you faith. We have the divine revelation of God's Word, but as far as anointing goes, only the Lord knows how much is needed for us to have faith the size of a mustard seed. Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Keeping our vessel clean is the result of our faith. We live to please God by faith.
Fasting and prayer helps give us discipline to resist fleshy appetites. Not eating when you are hungry is hard to do, and after a couple of days, you may feel physically weak. That is especially true on an all water fast. When we are weak, Christ is strong. We pray, acknowledging we need God's help to cast out devils. They are too strong for us in our own selves. It is acknowledging dependency on God. We wouldn't pray and fast unless we already had at least a measure of faith.

I don’t think we should equate those who turn aside in unbelief with those who believe yet can’t seem to get healed. An awful lot of good Christian people are believing as hard as they can but still struggling. It was God’s will for Lazarus to taste death, and I don’t think any amount of believing could have prevented it.

He told them to cross over into the Promised Land and they refused to obey due to a lack of faith in His promises...amen, they limited God. Among those 20 years old and above, only Joshua and Caleb had enough faith in God to possess the land. Everyone else missed out on God's promise. Even Moses failed to obey God perfectly, and it prevented him from crossing Jordan.

I take blood pressure pills and use a c-pap machine. This is just something that stood out to me in that Psalm. There is a difference in not having fully received and limiting God's ability.

This is what I was trying to bring out on the other thread, how faith is tied into the Holy Spirit....when the Spirit is moving we have faith, when we are in the Spirit we have faith. The faith of Christ, His Spirit. But without Him (His Spirit) we can do nothing. When I hear the words, "by faith", it almost translates into my understanding as "in the Spirit". It is an attitude of being yielded and at rest in the Lord, His Spirit....a confidence in Him that can't be drummed up, but actually is from being in a place of rest and trust in Him, surrendered, in receiving mode....the opposite of drumming up.
And who doesn't want to be in that place at all times, 24/7, 365 days of the year....but the reality is that for most of us at least (if not all?), we go in and out of that place. We see instances of people who only heal when the Spirit is moving in a church service for example, but not doing any healing outside of that. Things happen when the Holy Spirit moves us...faith seems to come on the wings of the Holy Spirit. It is His faith after all...not of our own. Anyway, that might only be part of it, but that is how I have seen and experienced it.

Do we place limits on God?
Yes.
"Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief." - Matthew 13:58Are there any limits on what God can do?
No.
"Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?" - Jeremiah 32:27
"For with God nothing will be impossible." - Luke 1:37Are we limiting God in some area in our lives?
Definitely.
Fortunately, we are in His presence because of His mercy.
"Therefore understand that the Lord your God is not giving you this good
land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people." - Deuteronomy 9:6
"...O faithless and perverse generation,
how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you?" - Matthew 17:17
Thank the Lord for His incomprehensible patience.
"For He knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust." - Psalm 103:14
Blessings!

How much revelation/anointing is needed to increase our faith? "And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” - Luke 17:5
"So the Lord said,
“If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree,
‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you." - Luke 17:6
"who through Him believe in God,
who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God." - 1 Peter 1:21
"For the Scripture says,
“Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”" - Romans 10:11
In other words, it is as easy as when you decide to go to the kitchen and take a cup of coffee.
In the same way you believed the coffee was there you must believe God will do what you hope.
"For the Scripture says,
“Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”" - Romans 10:11
Blessings!

How is this different from ‘name and claim it’ word faith teaching?

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. — James 5:14-17
We can’t pretend this doesn’t exist. The prayer of faith involves laying on of hands and earnest intercession from a righteous man. Sick people among the laity aren’t told to simply believe harder.

How is this different from ‘name and claim it’ word faith teaching? The difference is that you must abide in Him.
"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." - John 15:7
"...if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." - Galatians 5:18
It is not about acting from your carnal mind. As so many people think.
Faith in God will accomplish His will, not ours.

The difference is that you must abide in Him. Word faith teachers agree with you. Joyce Meyer says in her teaching that we must abide in Christ and seek His will. She believes as long as you’re a Spirit-filled Christian you can simply reach out and grab what He has for you. When her followes don’t get the same results, she says they either don’t trust God enough or don’t repent of hidden sin.

Word faith teachers agree with you. Joyce Meyer says in her teaching that we must abide in Christ and seek His will. She believes as long as you’re a Spirit-filled Christian you can simply reach out and grab what He has for you. The will of God is evident for us Christians sometimes. And if we know His will, we can act accordingly.
"...this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us." - 1 John 5:14
"And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him." - 1 John 5:15When her followes don’t get the same results, she says they either don’t trust God enough or don’t repent of hidden sin. I do not think I can teach others this. They must learn and know what they are doing.
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." - Matthew 7:7
It seems like teaching people on how to speak in tongues, you do not teach someone how to speak in tongues.
Just as you cannot teach people how to interpret tongues, or how to discern spirits, etc.
